Who are the main men? Tyler Hansbrough will be an ACC Player of the Year candidate again; Tywon Lawson should ascend to big dog status like many former Roy Williams' point guards; and Wayne Ellington could emerge into a big time scorer in this league.
What are the team's strengths? Even though the Heels lost starters Reyshawn Terry and Brandan Wright, they still are deeper than everyone else in the conference. They are also a scoring machine who will run all day and tire you out. They are also excellent rebounding, shoot a high percentage and are usually good at protecting the ball. Plus Tyler Hansbrough demands that other teams must adjust their entire game plans.
When will we see them struggle? UNC struggled in close games all last year because (a) they lost their poise down the stretch and (b) couldn't figure out who was The Man. Who knows if that will haunt them again this year. They are also extremely streaky from the perimeter.
Why should anyone care about North Carolina? This could be your 2007-2008 National Champion.
How stable is the program? Very. Roy Williams has not only won his title, but has his fingerprints on pretty much everything in the program. As long as he's chugging along, Carolina will be fine.
Where will they finish in the ACC? Anything less than 1st is disappointment. Of course, it was the same last year and the Heels nearly finished in 5th place.
Name you didn't know, but will: Deon Thompson. Thompson showed signs of effectiveness in spot duty last year. It's hard to shine when you back up Psycho T and Wright. Thompson has lost a lot of weight since arriving at Chapel Hill and was a stud on the USA's 19 and under team this summer.
