Why the North Carolina Tarheels Will Win the National Championship
North Carolina has already begun the NCAA tournament with two outstanding games. They have easily taken care of both Arkansas and Mt. St. Mary's in rounds one and two. If you do not follow the heels on a regular basis, you may think this means little. The heels are in fact a good bet to win the championship this year. Here are just a few reasons why.
Loads of Talent- From top to bottom UNC may have the best roster of talent of any team in the country. They have both big men and little quick men. Inside you have the likes of Tyler Hansbrough, Deon Thompson and Alex Stepheson. In the backcourt you have Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green. Don't forget about other role players like Marcus Ginyard and Quentin Thomas. This team is deep and loaded with talent. They will continue to win some games in this tournament just because of their talent alone.
Redemption- UNC fans remember all to well the loss this team experienced last year in the NCAA tournament. Up by eleven in the second half to Georgetown, the heels were clearly on a path to the Final Four. However an inability to put the team away combined with missed shots down the stretch, led to North Carolina going home early. This team remembers that loss all too well. There appears to be a determination to redeem themselves from last year. The team appears very focused and expect that to continue throughout the tournament.
Superior Coaching. Coach Roy Williams is an experienced, motivated leader. He knows what it takes to win a championship, and will demand the very best from all of his players. Furthermore he too remembers last year's loss and want to redeem is own coaching job from last year.
Tyler Hansbrough is a player unlike any other in college basketball. He plays with a determination and passion that is unmatched by his opponents. Tyler could have very easily entered the NBA draft last year. His decision to return to college is proof that some things are more important than money. Tyler wants to win a championship! It is my belief that he will put this team on his back, much like he did when Ty Lawson was injured this year, and lead them to a national championship!
